Audi A8

First Generation (1994-2002)

The first generation Audi A8 offered various engine choices. The A8 was first offered in European market. The all new Audi Space Frame work used in the construction of body reduced the overall weight to large extent, without sacrificing the structural rigidity.
The Audi A8 was slightly redesigned in 1997 and it was offered in either front wheel drive or in Torsen Quattro four wheel drive. The standard engine to the model was 2.8 liter V6 version that delivers 190 hp, while other engines offered as optional include 3.7L V8 and 4.2L V8. The standard luxury features in the model were enhanced BOSE audio system, 14-way power and heated seats, wood and leather interior trim and dual zone climate control.

Second Generation (2002-Present)

The Audi A8 is totally redesigned in 2002. It is designed based on the Volkswagen Group D2. The engine options and the features remain same as that of in the previous model.

As far as the exterior dimensions of the A8 are concerned, it has the wheel base of 113.5 inches, length of 198.2 inches, width of 74.0 inches and height of 56.6 inches. The Audi A8 is related to Audi S8.

2011 Audi A8 comes with 4.2-liter DOHC V-8. featuring an increase of about 22 hp and 4 lb-ft of torque, but you’ll have to shell out about $90, 000 to get your hands on the latest version of A8.

This time around, the new hp level would be 372 hp, and with 4lb-ft increase, new Audi A8 will deliver 328 lb-ft. The LED headlamps, and bigger tires would mark the styling cues of new A8.

The Audi A8 is a four-door, full-size, luxury sedan car manufactured and marketed by the German automaker Audi since 1994. Succeeding the Audi V8, the A8 has been offered with front wheel drive or permanent four-wheel drive, with multitronic or tiptronic automatic transmissions — and in short and long wheelbase variants. Previous generations employed the Volkswagen Group D platform with the current generation using the D4 platform.

Beginning in 1997, The A8 was the first mass-market car with an aluminum chassis, marketed as the Audi Space Frame and co-developed with Alcoa.

LOOKING at the Audi e-tron sports car, you'd hardly be surprised to learn that it can go from 0 to 100kmh in under five seconds.

But this fact might surprise you - it runs completely on batteries.

The concept car, which was on display at the Clean Energy Expo Asia last week, is the first electric vehicle the German carmaker has built from scratch.

It will likely cost more than the Tesla Roadster, another battery-powered sports car also displayed at the expo.

But wait. Aren't electric vehicles usually fuddy-duddy golf cart lookalikes that are more suited for grocery shopping than the race track? Mr Martin Freudenhagen, head of Audi's Project Management Electrification A-Sequment, doesn't think so.

He told The New Paper: "People think that electric cars are boring. We want to show that it's possible to create an electric car that delivers the performance and excitement of a sports car."

Though still in the concept phase - limited production of the e-tron is expected in two years - Audi knows who its customer will be.

Someone with the money and "is an early adopter in automotive and energy efficiency technology", Mr Freudenhagen said.

While the e-tron is not the first sports car to run on electricity - that honour goes to the Venturi Fetish - it may be a common sight on city roads soon.

A mass market option, the A1 e-tron, is expected to hit the roads in three to four years.

Although electric vehicles (EVs) may be good for the environment, such cars are a rarity here.

The Land Transport Authority said Singapore has just two EVs, compared with over 585,000 petrol-based ones.

Still, with Singapore committed to a 16 per cent emissions cut by 2020, the future for green cars looks bright.

Mr David Chou, managing director of electric conversion firm EV World, said: "It's about changing people's habits. In densely built-up Singapore, being at the wheel of an electric car that generates no noise can give people peace of mind."

The enhanced exterior styling of the Jaguar XFR moves those sporting credentials on even further, to deliver the ultimate expression of Jaguar's new saloon car design language - carrying a number of visual design cues that are intrinsic to Jaguar's 'R' car philosophy. Its unique front-end design has a larger lower grille with new black-finished mesh, plus chrome outboard air intakes. The upper mesh grille retains XF's bright finish, while the bonnet carries distinctive louvres, like those on the XKR sports car.

The Jaguar XFR also features bold new sill extensions, while the rear bumper adds a unique body-coloured lower valance panel incorporating the 'R' signature of four large, bright-finished tail pipes. The new bootlid spoiler has a significant aerodynamic effect. Developed in conjunction with the new front bumper design, it further improves the Jaguar XFR's front/rear lift balance, and therefore its high-speed stability. A new exterior mirror design also offers aerodynamic improvements, plus improved functionality with its LED side repeaters.

Sleek, sporting and sophisticated, the all-new Jaguar XJ brings a daring new spirit to automotive luxury. It offers a seductive mix of striking design, breathtaking performance and engineering without compromise.

The new Jaguar XJ is the epitome of fluid, contemporary automotive style. The elongated teardrop shape of the side windows establishes the car's silhouette and lies at the heart of its flowing design. And the new Jaguar XJ doesn't just look streamlined: it shares a drag coefficient of 0.29 with the Jaguar XF saloon, making them the most aerodynamic Jaguars ever.

A coupé profile cloaks a cabin that offers comparable levels of space to saloons with a more conventional style. There is generous accommodation for five occupants, while long-wheelbase models provide rear-seat passengers with even greater levels of comfort thanks to an additional 125mm of rear legroom.

As part of the year long celebration of Jaguar's 75th anniversary the Jaguar design team has created the Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept, a one-of-a-kind design project on display at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance Concept Car Lawn .

The Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept is the company's first demonstration of the design customisation potential of the striking new XJ luxury salon, emphasising the Jaguar's dramatic interior and exterior styling themes.

"The new Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept celebrates Jaguar's 75th Anniversary, and highlights the uniqueness of the XJ, and more broadly, the increasingly personal nature of luxury cars in today's market," said Mike O'Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars. "The XJ is thoroughly modern, and captures the innovative and daring character that our founder Sir William Lyons built into every Jaguar. And the design team clearly had some fun making their first one-of-a-kind XJ design concept in that spirit.

The new Jaguar XKR is a sophisticated grand tourer with the heart of a true sports car, combining effortless high-performance and state-of-the-art V8 powertrains with a new level of advanced technologies, intuitive control and Jaguar's superbly crafted, new-fashioned luxury interiors. The range comprises naturally aspirated XK and supercharged Jaguar XKR models, available in 2+2 coupe or convertible body styles.

All-new AJ-V8 Gen III 5.0-litre direct-injection engines bring significant improvements in power and torque and they do so without compromising fuel economy and emissions. In both respects, every model in the new XK range, in spite of such large performance and flexibility gains across the board, is comparable to their predecessors.

The impressive fuel economy for such powerful cars is attributable to the combination of the XK range's lowest-in-class weight and the all-new AJ-V8 Gen III engines. As well as the intrinsic advantages of the engines' light weight, these advanced all-aluminium four-cam power units have a number of features that deliver power with very high efficiency, including spray-guided direct injection (SGDI), which improves performance and economy, and dual independent variable cam timing (DIVCT), which benefits performance and economy, while also reducing emissions.

An exclusive Jaguar XKR 75 makes its debut at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Jaguar Land Rover CEO, Dr Ralf Speth, initiated the challenge to the Jaguar engineering team to construct an XKR to celebrate Jaguar's 75th anniversary, which would deliver a combination of enhanced performance, superb chassis and steering control and grip levels to inspire the driving enthusiast to explore the true potential of the XKR's capabilities.

Mike O'Driscoll, managing director, Jaguar Cars, said "The Jaguar XKR 75 will provide owners with exclusivity, excitement and a hint of Jaguar's great heritage. This is a fitting way to celebrate the sporting credentials of the XK marque in the 75th year of the Jaguar name", he continued.

Jaguar engineers increased the power and torque of the acclaimed 5.0-litre supercharged engine to 530PS and 655Nm respectively for the Jaguar XKR 75, to deliver truly outstanding performance. While the limited edition model's top speed is electronically limited to 174mph (280km/h), the Jaguar XKR 75's 0-60mph (100km/h) acceleration time is reduced from 4.6 to 4.4 seconds compared to the standard 510 PS XKR.

Jaguar XF Black Pack

The highly successful Jaguar XF sports saloon is now available with a dramatic new appearance pack for customers who want their Jaguar to make an even stronger visual impact.
The exclusive new Jaguar XF Black Pack brings an added sense of power and purpose to the sought-after XF range, and follows closely in the wheel tracks of a similar option on the XK sports car which has aroused huge interest since its launch earlier in 2010.
Featuring menacing dark-grey 20-inch Draco alloy wheels with diamond turned rims, a gloss black grille and gloss black window surrounds, the Jaguar XF Black Pack is available on XF Diesel S, the 5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and XFR models, with prices starting at £950.
"The Black Pack gives the XF a highly distinctive, very modern and a slightly edgy appearance," said Geoff Cousins, Managing Director, Jaguar UK. "Since the Black Pack and Speed Pack were launched on the XKR sports car at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, almost half of XKR coupe buyers have selected one or both options - double our original estimate - and we expect the Black Pack will generate just as much excitement amongst XF customers.
